Holding Joy - About me
Jeanine Ray
I’m Jeanine, a trained Reiki Master and End of Life Doula committed to serving my community both in the Hunter Valley, NSW and beyond, with my business Holding Joy.
I’ve lived and worked in the Hunter Valley for nearly 20 years, working in various roles in the retail and disability sectors. I value authentic connection and collaboration aiming to be as inclusive as possible. I’ve learnt a lot from working and socialising with people from all walks of life, including many from neuro and gender diverse backgrounds.
Holding Joy
Holding Joy was started as a way for me to help others with Reiki sessions and training, I am now honored to also be working to support people with their end of life journeys as an End of Life Doula.
Varied training and life experiences allow me to offer holistic and compassionate care, offering both practical and planning support support throughout the end of life process as an End of Life Doula, and as a Reiki Practitioner offering sessions for healing and connection, as well as training to new and current Reiki practitioners.
Reiki
I began practicing Reiki quite a few years ago, with my initial focus being to help others with the physical aspects of pain relief, mostly migraines, and trouble sleeping. My Reiki practice evolved over the years to include more spiritual practices as I’ve deepened my spiritual connection through taking part in womens circles, meditation, and helping to teach reiki classes. Recent sessions I’ve done have not only helped with pain management, but also included energy clearing and unexpected connections. No two sessions are the same, just as no two Reiki Practitioners are the same.
End of Life
My interest to learn about End of Life care started a few years ago while working in the disability sector, working with support workers who were helping to offer the best support during end of life care. I could see that having someone to provide extra support helped the person, as well as their friends and family during an often difficult and emotional time. The dedication and care provided by those staff inspired me to learn more.
I started Death Doula training with Life Options which opened my mind to so many aspects of End of Life care. I realised that we as a society needed to do more to make sure people are given more information and support to understand their rights and choices. In 2024 I connected with Picaluna to learn more about helping to plan and organise Funerals, gaining more insight into the funeral industry.
My background in the disability sector gave me an understanding of person centered support, reinforcing the need to treat everyone with respect, dignity, and agency.
